King's Greatest Conquests

His early career might not have coincided with the most successful period in our recent history, but Ledley certainly managed to achieve a few things in his time at the Lane. Here’s a selection of the best:

Bradford City, 9th December 2000

Although this was a hugely frustrating 3-3 draw with relegation-bound Bradford, where we were denied victory in the last minute, it’ll always be remembered for what happened an hour and-a-half earlier. There were only 9.7 seconds on the clock when Ledley’s hugely optimistic (and hugely deflected) drive became the fastest ever goal in Premier League history.

Chelsea, 24th February 2008

Ledley finally picked up a trophy for us after the Carling Cup final against Chelsea, where he and Woody were outstanding at the back. The sight of King holding up some silverware was even better than that of John Terry shaking his head in annoyance as he trooped up for his loser’s medal.

Arsenal, 14th April 2010

Scarily, Ledley hadn’t yet been on the winning side in a league derby, his only victory coming in the Carling Cup semi-final in 2008. He finally put that ghost to rest as we overcame our mouthy neighbours to leap back into Champions League contention. At one point, he even broke up the play in our half and hobbled all the way into the Arsenal box…..for a cross that never came.

Man City, 5th May 2010

After a flurry of games left him doubtful for the crucial enouncter at City, Ledley was thankfully declared fit before captaining us to victory and the Champions League. It was fitting that a modern Spurs great had led our return to Europe’s premier competition.
